Summer is finally slipping into fall. I was a sweat monster this June July. I guess we all were. This first picture is of a very tall very skinny man that I saw outside the car window. It's weird to think that almost a month ago Brian and I were dragging a boxed up tandem bicycle on and off greyhounds trying to make our way to Austin for SXSW. We were on the bus for 24 hours. We had two tins of cookies that we made for the stranger that was letting us sleep on her couch. But, Brian, who normally has the biggest sweet tooth in the world, wouldn't let us snack on them. So, on the bus trips we lived on deep fried peanuts, ramen, and lemon cremes.
This post is a little late, and neither of us took enough pictures: we were lost in the blur of warm weather, friends, and music.
The first set of band pictures are of Woods. We saw them at a house show with Beach Fossil, Pocahaunted, and Real Estate. The next are of Real Estate when they played at Emo's. They aren't the best pictures in the world, but it was such a nice memory & they were the only band we really liked at Emo's that day. (We also saw Washed Out and Memory Tapes. Chillwave died that day.)

Do you wonder who else we saw? Lemonade, TV Carnage, Toro Y Moi, Efterklang, Tobacco, Major Lazer, Best Coast, The Very Best, Dum Dum Girls, Yellow Fever, Yacht, and Indian Jewelry.

What do you think about the Adbuster's Article: The Coming Barbarism?

At first the article filled me with rage, then happiness, then just a dull confusion. Of course, I agree with many of Haddow's point. Capitalism is terrible blahblahblahblahblah. I am so tired of hearing the same old rants.

"There is a revolutionary current running through the subconscious of this generation that has yet to be realized or defined. We champion piracy, instinctively believing that information should be free and open, that intellectual property law is contra-progress and that capital is not a necessary intermediary for social organization. Postcapital collaboration is our daily bread, and we hold a distinctly global worldview, void of class, race or nation. But we grew up too comfortable, played too much Nintendo, watched too much Saved by the Bell, read too much Chuck Klosterman and not enough Frantz Fanon. We naïvely drank the consumerist-credit card Kool-Aid, and now that the Final Fantasy is upon us, we’re in danger of sliding into a delusional techno-utopianism...

In the next ten years Gen Y will inherit the ownership of something commonly referred to as “the West,” but what will that even be worth? The West has become its own worst enemy, creating global conflict in order to promote a failed socioeconomic doctrine – a corrupt corporatism that bails out its banks and then gives its thieving rich million-dollar bonuses for bankrupting the working class. How could such a dysfunctional system possibly compete with China’s monolithic authoritarian model?
The only hope for the West is if we tear our current system apart piece by piece from the inside out, replacing what we destroy with viable alternatives. Starting with the renunciation of the label “Gen Y” – a hollow marketing term thought up by a balding boomer advertising executive. I have been riding a very heavy and squeaky Raleigh Sprite for the past two years. On Friday Brian and I drove to the middle of nowhere mountain land to find the one of the dreamiest bicycles in the world.
Southern semi-trucks always say the strangest things.

These almost spring days are making my heart burst with happiness. I am in love with everyone I see.

Until recently, I have avoided reading poetry written by people that are walking around the planet while I am walking around. I don't know what changed. There must be something about growing older, and learning to like tomatoes.
A little essay by Tao Lin led me to this poem:

Winter

A kind of Danish cow

long thought to be extinct

lumbers slowly from a fog-soaked forest.

Past the statue of two men shaking hands on horseback.

Into the trainyard with its newly

brunette-colored coal cars.

It is late, lamps light the trainyard.

One of the trainmen sees the cow and has a thought

like a small grey infant sinking

ever so slowly in the icy harbor.

The cow continues out the other side of the trainyard.

The trainman shudders at the thought.

The trainman’s cat Stamina crunches walnuts in her cat dish.

Now, nearly thirty years later,

ladies and gentlemen it is my great pleasure

to introduce to you that very same cow.

(The cow is led out onto the stage by a young boy dressed as a farmer.)

For the first time in ages I was able to escape Atlanta and wander around a different city. Brian and I visited his family in a suburb of D.C. We went to museums, ate Ethiopian food, duck pin bowled, watched snobby 18th century aristocrats preform at the Black Cat, made a southern vegan feast, shivered in the cold, drank too much soda, and read comic books. The thrift stores in D.C. are unbelievably wonderful. We nearly collapsed walking through the Atlanta airport because we were so weighted down by all of our new loot. We also visited the zoo. One of my favorite parts was seeing the maned wolves. I was so happy I forgot to take a picture.

A trip to the Buford Highway Farmer's Market led us to a colorful and grim new world.
